Frost Free Hydrant Leaking Underground. I would just turn it on when i went out to feed animals then shut it off. I believe my frost free hydrant is leaking underground so rather than replacing the hydrant, can i just remove it and make a pipe to pipe connection under the house?
Over time the rubber plunger will wear and it may be necessary to adjust the hydrant. The hydrant valve is at the bottom of the pipe and also there is a small weep hole just above the valve that will allow the pipe to drain down to the valve. To get the water from the pressurized line buried several feet underground to an access point at the surface, you’ll need a frost free hydrant.
As the valve is opened the plunger allows water in while sealing weep hole.
The interior plumbing is then connected to the hydrant just outside of the house. I live in a modular and my water main exits the ground via a frost free hydrant. There is not need to panic the hydrant is not defective! That's why the pipe won't freeze.
